A PPD File (PostScript Printer Description File) is a file normally shipped by the printer manufacturer. This file contains the instructions necessary to activate all the features of the printer like paper formats, paper trays, output trays, media type, duplex printing, color management etc.

A PDD File is the equivalent of a PPD file (for PostScript) but now for PCL printers. This file may be supplied either by the printer manufacturer or by SIC.

The Canon CPCA is a proprietary protocol to manage finishing and device specific features of Canon devices.
